Marigold

A family distiller dedicated to sandalwood

Founded in 2017, supplying sandalwood essential oil to B2B customers worldwide.

Marigold Global Resources is a family business built on decades of Indian sandalwood savoir-faire. We work with two species grown in Australia, Australian sandalwood under wild-collection licence and Indian sandalwood from managed plantations. We distil them at our own facility in Vietnam and supply sandalwood essential oil to B2B customers across India, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and China.

We built Marigold to deliver reliable & certified sandalwood essential oil across the world.

Source

One country.
Two species.
Two very different stories.
Both fully traceable.

We work with sandalwood from Australia, the most tightly regulated sandalwood jurisdiction in the world. Every kilo that enters our facility arrives with documentation: species, origin, harvest licence, and chain of custody.

Indian Sandalwood

Santalum album

Plantation grown. Australia. Zero wild harvest.

The species that built sandalwood's reputation, and nearly lost it. Wild S. album is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. That is exactly why we don't touch it. Our S. album comes from managed plantations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia, established specifically to take pressure off wild populations.

How trees are selected

Plantation trees are harvested on maturity, when heartwood development and essential oil profile reach specification. Selection is made by the plantation operator on a managed rotation, not on demand pressure.

What happens to the land

Harvested plantation blocks are rotated into other agricultural production as part of the landholder's crop cycle. It is working farmland, managed as such.

Australian Sandalwood

Santalum spicatum

Licensed wild collection. Western Australia.

S. spicatum grows across the Western Australian rangelands and is classified Least Concern by the IUCN. Wild collection is permitted, but only under strict licence.

How the wild forest is managed

Four seedlings for every cut. The licence condition is simple and non-negotiable. Regeneration isn't a marketing line here. It is a legal condition of supply.

The partners we work with

We work through long-term supply relationships with a small, known group of partners. Every supplier goes through:

  1. 01

A due diligence questionnaire covering legality, labour practices, environmental management and Access & Benefit Sharing.

  2. 02

Documented harvest authorisation: plantation records or wild-collection licence.

  3. 03

Ongoing monitoring against our supplier KPIs, with corrective actions tracked to closure.

Heritage & expertise

Desapping. By hand, the old way.

Sapwood carries almost no santalol. Separating it cleanly from heartwood is the single decision that sets the ceiling on final essential oil quality.

We do it in Vietnam, in our own facility, by hand, using the traditional Indian method of desapping.

No machine reads a log the way a trained hand does. A blade follows the grain, the sapwood comes away, and what goes into the still is heartwood and nothing else. It is slower. It is more expensive. It is also the reason our yields and our santalol figures hold up.

Segregation

Segregation is the control that matters

Both species run through the same facility, so keeping them apart is our most important protocol.

  1. 01

    Dedicated runs per species

    S. album and S. spicatum are never distilled together, and never in the same run.

  2. 02

    Full equipment cleandown

Between species changeovers, following documented protocol.

  3. 03

    Unique batch coding

From raw material intake through to finished drum, every batch traceable to its consignment and origin.

  4. 04

    GC-FID verification

Confirms species identity before release. If the profile doesn't match, the batch doesn't ship.

Quality

We test in-house, on every batch, before anything leaves.

What we test

Every batch is profiled by GC-FID before release. Species identity is confirmed chromatographically, not assumed from the paperwork.

Reliability & service

Supply security & service

Two years of wood & essential oil in stock.
1 contact in Europe to talk to.

We hold a two-year wood stock buffer and 300 to 500 kg of essential oil, through long-term relationships with a small, known group of suppliers. Buyers deal with a European point of contact, and get the responsiveness of a family business rather than the lead times of a large industrial player.
